Mikonui tramp

At the start of the week, we had our 6th challenge which was the Mikonui tramp the highlight of my trip was definitely jumping off the rock with Kate Grace and Alyssa, the water was soooooo cold it was so cold that I got brain freeze, but even though every time I jumped in I could hardly breathe I kept on doing it. The lowlight of my trip would have to be trying to go to sleep with heaps of spiders because I hate spiders. It was a really great experience going river crossing and being showed how to correctly cross a river, also being showed how to light a fire properly. We also had to sit in the dark alone for 20 minutes and write in our journals or we could just sit there and think about life and that was a little scary but fun. altogether it was a really great experience and I would love to do it again with my family.

The big earthquake

On Monday 14th of November, there was a 7.8 earthquake 15km north - east of Culverden in New Zealand. it was really scary and I can't imagine thinking what it would have been like for the people who live in Kaikoura they were very badly affected by the earthquake. at school today we had a mufti day and we took a gold coin donation for Kaikoura, also my mum has baked lots of food to donate. Hannah, Mya and I also had to take a photo for the newspaper for all the money that we raised. altogether it was a very scary experience and I hope it never happens again.

Coolest Debate ever !!!

Class Debate #6
This week we had our 6th debate the subject was "trophy hunting is okay," I was on the con team which means I wasn't for it. I think this was the most fun debate so far, mostly because I was on the side that I wanted, and I got to do a crossfire which is always fun. I have learnt so much from debating this year, like how to search scholarly websites and also I have got confident in talking in front of people, and I really hope that they do debating in high school.

Temple basin ski trip

Skiing in temple basin was such a great experience there were so many highlights like when Kate
fell off the nutcracker or when I fell into a pile of rocks and Kate stood there laughing at me. It was an amazing experience something that was really cool was when Kate, George and I made it to the top and you could see the road and it didn't even look like you had to walk that far to get there. the walk up was killer I felt like I had no legs after that walk but the walk down was not so bad but I fell over a lot in the snow it was funny when we were walking down we had walkies talkies Kate and grace had one and Hannah and I had one we all had code names Kate was chocolate fudge, grace was strawberry sundae, Hannah was caramel swirl and I was beetroot for some weird reason. all together it was a great experience and I hope to do it again one day!!!

Rafting

Yesterday was one of the funniest days of my life, me and half of my class went rafting in the grey river. my favourite part of the whole experience was definitely going over the massive rapids I was so scared the whole time at one point I thought that I would just jump out of the raft because I was sure that we were going to flip, I screamed so loud that you could probably hear me from the north island.

I loved not just the rafting but getting to hang out with my friends. cooking was also a highlight for me apart from when I walk away to clean a plate and I leave Calder in charge then when I come back they are
our cooked pasta all over the ground so the pasta that we ate tasted a bit like grass.

I loved rafting so much because it took me way out of my comfort zone it is a really good experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Rock climbing and abseiling

Last week we went rock climbing and abseiling I was super nervous about everything I was going back in my head about the likelihood of the rope snapping or me falling to my death but I knew that I was just worrying too much. I was the first person down the abseil my main reason was because I wanted to get it over and done with but when I was down the bottom I wanted to go down again, it felt like I had just come off a rollercoaster.

Next, we had the rock climbing I was really excited for this because I had been rock climbing heaps before this and I loved it I started with the hardest one first mainly because there were other people on the easy one when I got half way up I thought holy moly as I looked down on the sea crashing against rocks, I thought I couldn't get any higher that it was impossible but I thought as though if I made it to the top that I would get another abseil and that is what motivated me.

I loved the thrill that came with rock climbing and abseiling and it was a great experience that I will never forget.

National young leaders day

National young leaders day 2016
This week we went to NYLD ( National young leaders day) I was very excited when we got there but I didn't know if it was good or not because I had never been, all the speakers were very good and very inspirational I really liked the first speaker, Billy Graham, he told us that when he was our age he had to be put into a special class because he wasn't smart enough but that never stopped him doing the things that he loves, he has really taught me that nothing is impossible if you have a dream go for it.

My favourite speaker was James beck he was sooooo funny he had a really good Quote "sometimes being a leader you have to follow not just lead" which I can relate to in many ways.

By far the most inspirational speaker of the day was Brylee mills she was in a serious car accident when she was younger she had to have her arm removed she thought that she wouldn't be able to do  dance again but she did she was the first disabled dancer to get into the top Sydney dance school if she can do all that then I can really do anything I dream of.

it was a great experience all around and maybe one day I will do something great and thank each and everyone for inspiring me.

pervasive writing

Dear editor, I strongly believe that Greymouth needs more colour it's boring as you might as seen there has been a patch of grass that has recently been put in near the floodwall along with a beautiful painting on the wall every time I drive past I think WOW why can't the whole of Greymouth look like this.

Firstly the name Greymouth now I am not saying that we should change it but it sort of sums up Greymouth GREY if we bring some colour to Greymouth we will not be known as “boring old Greymouth”. If you have ever been to Wellington or Nelson you will know that they are filled with beautiful street art why can't Greymouth be this awesome, in Nelson or Wellington people go into town just to look at the street art which they will more than likely end up buying a drink or going to have a look in the shops this means if we have some street art it will attract more tourists.

It is also not just boring for the tourists that come here but it is extremely boring for the people that live in Greymouth. wouldn't it just be great if we had a playground or something to play on in town something with colour it would be great for all the tourists that come off the train to stop and have lunch, and this is why I strongly believe Greymouth needs more colour?
Yours sincerely
Reed Johnson

THE RUN

Today we were doing the run and we were told since it was a bit stormy we could go as far as we possibly could, of course, that's when I thought oh I am going to do the short run because today I just can't be bothered and I have a sore heel but really I should have done the long I am really disappointed in myself because I could have gone, father but I was just being lazy.when we got back from the run I thought long and hard I have got it easy there are lots of other people in the world that have to do way harder stuff than what I am doing and sometimes you just got to do something you don't like,I really want to try hard on the run now even if that means feeling a little sick afterwards I really regret the decision that I made and now will think harder about what I do.
